Letting your computer speak Kiswahili
Hypothesis : most people do not make full use of their computers because it uses a language they do not understand. Looking at most developed countries, computers have been made to speak their language. This has made sure that everyone can take full advantage of this “gadget”. From the kids to the grannies. But We have been cornered to either learn English, or just surf the net or use only about 5 -10% of the full power of the “gadget”. While standing on the giant's shoulders we have managed to learn and have localised one of the world's most utilized Web browser namely, Firefox.
We have taken the lessons we learnt while working on that project and we're pushing them to the next level. For the next few months we willl be focusing on localizing a number of applications into Kiswahili: Virtaal, a Computer Aided Localization Tool, Pootle, a localization server, Fennec, Firefox for mobile devices and many others. Get involved and lets make it easier for everyone to use computers.
